Pro cyclist Joaquim Rodríguez has decided to continue his career with team Bahrain- Merida
Thursday 20th October 2016 – Joaquim Rodríguez has decided to continue his career in professional cycling for one more year, despite his announcement after Tour de France to retire at the end of 2016 season. He signed with BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team for the coming 2017 season as one of our most important riders as well as continue into 2018 and 2019 as an important role model within the technical staff of the team, namely having the role of mentor for the young riders as well as been a senior advisor to the technical staff, Rodriguez will also be an important ambassador for the promotion of cycling in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Joaquim Rodríguez Oliver, age 37 is a Spanish well-know road racing cyclist. His long career and fabulous achievement in cycling brought him many titles. He competed from 2001 to 2016 in Pro Tour. His notable results in Grand Tours include fourteen stage victories, second place overall in the 201 Giro d’Italia, finishing 2nd overall in the 2015 Vuelta a Espana, third place in the general classification of the Vuelta a in both 2010 and two years later and year later third place in the Tour de France. He also finished first of the UCI world rankings in 2010, 2012 and 2013 and won classics Giro di Lombardia and Fleche Wallonne twice, 2012 and 2013. He also won stage races including the Volta a Catalunya 2010 and 2014, the 2015 Tour of the Basque Country and the Vuelta a Burgos 2011.
Joaquim Rodríguez commented signing with BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team: “BAHRAIN MERIDA Team presented me with a very interesting project. My decision to leave the competition has always been firm, but Bahrain Merida proposed a very interesting project to me and assured me that I will feel so comfortable and motivated with them that I have decided to put a race number on my back for one more year. That ́s also the reason they have offered me to be part of there important team roster for 2017 and the exciting opportunity to work within the technical staff for 2018 and 2019 – so I have the possibility to return to the races, otherwise I would never have had this exciting opportunity. This new role is new to me, but the only thing they asked me to do is what I know best: enjoy cycling as usual and bring all my experience and knowledge learned throughout my career as a rider. I think that such possibility is a dream of any rider so the BAHRAIN MERIDA Team have offered me just what I was looking for.”

Dank je. Ben er echt lang mee bezig geweest hoe ik het zou presenteren. Fijn dat de keuze die ik gemaakt heb de waardering krijgt die ik had gehoopt te krijgen

Korte samenvatting: Purito gaat voor heel veel poen nog een jaartje rijden voor Bahrein, en gaat vanaf 2018 deel uitmaken van het technisch kader aldaar, waarschijnlijk voor ook een hoop poen. Reactie Purito: poen, poen, poen. Waar is trol 49 als je hem nodig hebt?

Ik vermoed dat cyclingfreakske de schrijver is

Mooi verhaal. De realiteit is waarschijnlijk nog net iets anders: in november of december krijgt Bahrain een WT-licentie op basis van de punten van onder meer Purito, en in januari of februari - nog voordat hij zijn eerste koers rijdt - besluit de Spanjaard dat het toch genoeg is, en begint hij een klein jaartje eerder dan gepland aan zijn 'adviseursrol' bij de ploeg.

Zou me niet verbazen, maar Bahrein heeft toch punten genoeg? Als ze daadwerkelijk naar 17 ploegen gaan, is DDD het haasje.

Hebben ze aan Nibali, Gasparotto, Colbrelli en Izagirre niet ruim voldoende?

1e en 3e in de Amstel Gold Race. Dat zijn aardig wat punten. Die ploeg is volgend jaar meteen favoriet voor de heuvelklassiekers.

Exact NUL punten. Bij de UCI tellen alleen de punten van renners van WT-ploegen echt mee.

Volkomen scheef natuurlijk, nu hebben ze eindelijk weer een overkoepelende wereldranglijst bedacht, maar vervolgens laten ze de WT-licenties afhangen van die scheve WorldTour ranking, waarin sterke WT-prestaties van niet-WorldTour-renners niets opleveren.

Flauw van ze. Zeker aangezien WT renners wel punten in de continentale tours kunnen scoren, toch?

Andersom ook, maar steeds voor de worldranking. Maar dat staat dus los van de WT-punten (die tellen voor de ploegenranking - en de licenties voor het jaar nadien)...

In de regels van de UCI staat letterlijk vermeld dat die punten gewoon meetellen.
